EdPath Specialized Learning Services

Several types of enhanced tutoring are available for children with academic and social skills needs, and older children and adults with needs in literacy, writing, and study/organizational skills. The following types of tutoring are available:

Enhanced Literacy Tutoring

We provide children between the ages of six and nine one-to-one and small group reading intervention that is based on the science of reading. We begin with a free consultation, followed by in-depth assessment, then targeted weekly 45 minute sessions, billed individually or for twelve weeks at a time. As part of this tutoring, families receive coaching in how to use effective buddy-reading strategies and to support their child in reading for fun between sessions. In addition, our tutors network and collaborate with teachers and therapists so they can work together with them to support each other in meeting the needs of the learner. Tutors can come out to the home, travel to our home office, or meet at a location in the community.

We can tutor children who have:

  • ASD
  • ADD
  • Language delays and disorders
  • Developmental and cognitive delays or impairments
  • Sensory processing disorders
  • Dyslexia

Nature-Based Tutoring

We provide children between the ages of six and eleven tutoring in literacy, attention, self-help, and social skills in a forest environment. We incorporate active play and child-directed learning opportunities and follow those expereinces with many opportunities to apply literacy and social skills while exploring and studying nature while interacting with other children.  Nature Tutoring takes place in collaboration with Piedmont Forest School.

In-Person Advanced Academic Tutoring

We provide children ten and up, and adults, in-person tutoring at home, in the Rural Hall office, or in other community locations in the following subjects:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Study skills
  • Spanish language
After an initial free introductory session, we give several assessments and create an individualized intervention plan. Sessions can be held one to three hours a week, and include 45 minute sessions. Sessions are collaborative, and incorporate input and feedback from the learner. Parents, instructors, other therapists, and teachers are seen as members of each learner’s team, and close collaboration with them is incorporated as needed.

On-line Tutoring

We provide children ages six and up, and adults, via Google Meet and over other online collaboration and instruction platforms, tutoring in:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Study skills
  • Spanish language

After an initial free introductory session, we give several assessments and create an individualized intervention plan. Sessions can be held one to three hours a week, and include 45 minute sessions. Sessions with children ages six to nine involve lots of play, humor, physical activity, and games, whereas sessions with older children and adults are more collaborative, and incorporate input and feedback from the learner. Parents, instructors, other therapists, and teachers are seen as members of each learner’s team, and close collaboration with them is incorporated as needed.

  • We are an inclusive program and can tutor children and adults with disabilities.  Children will likely need an adult to assist them.
